Lovely people, great atmosphere, good weather and well-behaved dogs – stir these ingredients well and serve up at the Wessex Country Fair.

I was so happy to catch up with the lovely and talented Freddie Parker and Victor who staged the most wonderful displays of sheepdogs and ducks (07890 418133 www.sheepdogdisplays.co.uk www.freddiesfarm.co.uk) and with whom I worked last year.

They were a hard act to follow yesterday, not just because they had the large crowd enthralled with their displays, but also because Daisy and Poppy were greeted with the scent of a dozen ducks or so when we entered the arena!

It mattered not, for they both did well and we received tons of positive feedback and training requests afterwards. I was helped by the very capable Lee, partner of the organiser Rachel Turnbull, both of whom looked after us well.

We were asked to return next year and there were several invitations to appear at other events in 2015. I really hope that I can appear alongside Freddie again, not just because she’s great fun but also because she has agreed to be a conduit for me to be introduced to the big event movers and shakers.

Anyway, I hope yesterday’s efforts by all the exhibitors raised tons of cash for Salisbury Hospice. We had a lovely, quintessentially English afternoon amongst like-minded and good folk.

Only 3 more shows to go, starting with one of our old favourites: Newton Tony fete this bank holiday Monday. Once again, we’ll be appearing for free, but the advice I am getting from those on the circuit is that we really need to review this for next year …….
