Try and organise your routine such that you do your training with the dog before you feed him. If a dog is hungry and you are using treats to reward behaviour, you are more likely to get a responsive and eager dog than if you train after feeding. Aside from not being good for the dog to exercise immediately after feeding, dogs, like humans, tend to be more lethargic after food.

So, my routine in the morning is: let dogs outside to wee etc and have a quick mooch about the garden, then I train, then they get access to water and then they are fed. More often than not, they then sleep!

Same again in the evening and you’ll have an energetic dog keen to please!
